'Consider lower bank interest rate'

PETALING JAYA: While many businesses are relieved to be thrown a lifeline in the form of the six-month loan repayment moratorium, they are pleading with the banks to consider lowering the interest rate.
Businesses, especially SMEs and micro enterprises, feel they have no choice but to opt for the moratorium as this will allow them to take a breather from shouldering the heavy cost of keeping the business running amid Covid-19 movement restrictions.
“They have no choice because to continue, they need to pay workers’ wages, rentals and licence fees, ” said Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) president Shirley Tay.
She said those who opted for the moratorium might have to think about paying the interest in the next six months. ....

Salons, beauty industry adapting to new normal

PETALING JAYA: Salon operators and beauty brand owners are getting used to new rules under the movement control order.
Michael Poh, president of the Malaysian Hairdressing Association and United Asia Hairdresser Association, said the only thing to do is to stay positive.
“We have less income but we are also spending less, not travelling abroad and so on. We must try to remain positive, ” said Poh.
“If you’re lucky, your sales last year would have only dropped by 40%, but for most of the salons in the country, losses are between 50% and 60%, because we have only been allowed to cut hair. ....

PETALING JAYA: The hairdressing, wellness and optical industries have urged the government to reconsider its decision to prohibit them from operating during the movement control order period.
They pointed out that they had not been the cause of any Covid-19 clusters thus far.
Association of Malaysian Optometrists president Ahmad Fadhullah Fuzai called on the government to allow private practice optometrists as well as optical shops to reopen.
He said since the beginning of the pandemic they had not been the cause of any clusters as they had been following the SOP diligently. ....
