MISSOULA, Mont. - Across the grounds from the upcoming Rocky Mountain Exploration Center, another building is being renovated, the Home Arts building, near the entrance off South Avenue. It s planned to be finished in time for the fair. Crews are working to make the building more accessible with ADA upgrades. Then, they ll be adding big storefront windows so folks can look out to the rest of the carnival grounds. They re also getting rid of the chain link fence inside the grounds and renovating Mercantile Alley, the path that connects the Home Arts building to the new historic plaza. There they ll be adding new lights and fresh landscaping. ....

With the $63,600 contract now in place, Elkhorn will streamline the construction process. âThey basically play a role between the construction people and the sources, particularly for the technical equipment and how weâre putting that together in our new facility,â said Jerry Marks, who helped spearhead the project with the Missoula County Extension and Weed District. ....

Building 36, otherwise known as the maintenance shop, is beyond repair, fairgrounds officials said. âWe explored many options to save this building and unfortunately, it wasnât financially feasible to rehab it and the Commercial and Culinary buildings,â said fairgrounds director Emily Brock. âIt would have cost even more than those buildings.â ....
A little piece of Missoula history is being torn down. The Missoula County Fairgrounds have been looking to break ground on the new Rocky Mountain Exploration Center this year, which means they have to clear a little bit of space in order to that. That means that Building 36, which occupies some of the ground that the new center is meant to take, is going to have to move. And while the Fairgrounds and the City were exploring options to relocate the building, it ultimately made no sense financially to save it. On the plus side, the Rocky Mountain Exploration Center that s taking its place does sound really cool. They re currently working with the Missoula Insectarium and plan to include a tropical butterfly house and a demonstration garden on wildflower pollinators. The project will ultimately cost over $12 million. ....
