Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative (JMEC) issued the following statement today related to a Data Security Incident:
“Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative (JMEC) recently learned of a data security incident that may impact some of our members. We take this incident very seriously and are working alongside law enforcement, expert service providers, and our regulatory leadership to resolve it.
“The JMEC data security incident may have involved some of the organization’s financial documents inadvertently being placed for trash pickup rather than for their secure disposal.
JMEC was notified Wednesday afternoon, June 09, 2021, that some of these documents were scattered from a waste hauling truck that services the cooperative. These were gathered by hand and returned to JMEC. ....

SIOUX FALLS, SD The monumental power failure in Texas caused by unseasonable cold showed how extreme weather can push an electric grid to the brink.
The average U.S. power customer loses electricity for 1.5 to 2 hours annually even before extreme weather events are taken into account, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. As the Texas experience showed, hurricanes, snowstorms, heat waves and other extreme weather events can make such outages dramatically worse.
Customers in South Dakota state experienced 4.92 hours without power in 2019 0.22 more hours than the national average of 4.7 hours in 2019, which is the most recent information available, according to the EIA. ....

City Hires Albuquerque Company to Install LED Street Lights


    City Manager Xavier Martinez spoke about the funding.
    “The mayor actually spearheaded this and reached out to the governor directly and got this funding through the governor’s allotted funding that she can afford,” he said.
    Mayor Javier Sanchez said improving the city’s appearance and safety at night has been a priority as mayor, which lead him to make this special request of the governor’s office before the last legislative session.
    “It was something that I had gone to her for and asked for because it’s specific to us,” Sanchez said. “I don’t know if any other communities are like us or not, but, it’s certainly one of the things that I recognized when I was running for office. So, you know, we saw that we had the problem of darkness and lack of lights, and this is one of the ways that we can approach that task in order to tackle it.” ....
