Cameron Man Convicted of Fleeing, Meth Possession | News, Sports, Jobs

A Cameron man was convicted Wednesday on a felony charge of fleeing an officer, along with misdemeanor charge of methamphetamine possession.
Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Canestraro said James A. Vipperman, 34, of Cameron was convicted of fleeing in a vehicle from an officer with reckless indifference for the safety of others, as well as meth possession. The conviction came following a one-day jury trial.
Vipperman will be sentenced at a later date. He faces between one and five years in prison for the fleeing conviction and between 90 days to six months for drug possession. He previously had been convicted of at least one felony offense in West Virginia. ....

Multiple Marshall County fire departments responded to a vacant house fire at 79 Oak Ave., Moundsville, early Monday morning.
No injuries were reported after several Marshall County fire departments responded to an early morning vacant house fire at 79 Oak Ave., Moundsville.
According to Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Danny Holmes, they received a call at approximately 4:40 a.m. of possible electrical arcing on a utility pole outside the residence. He said the Moundsville Police Department arrived on the scene first and reported a fire in progress.
Holmes said when the fire department arrived on the scene a fire had already begun on the first floor of the structure. ....

In February 2021, the human trafficking unit with McLennan County Sheriff s Office took a report regarding ongoing, criminal sexual acts being acted on by David Young of Madisonville in the Waco area.
During the investigation, it was determined that Young engaged in sexual acts with a 3-year-old child at a Waco location in late 2020.
Following the investigation, a warrant for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child was issued for his arrest.
Once Young discovered the issuance of the warrant, he fled to West Virginia. ....

Walmart Employee Stole $123,000 in Gift Cards For Woman He Met Online
A Walmart worker in West Virginia got busted last week after stealing over $123,000 in gift cards, and shared them with someone he met online.
Federal prosecutors say 63-year-old Kenneth Werkau of Moundsville started stealing the cards in September of 2019, running through January 2020.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia said he never paid for the cards at the cash register.
Wednesday, Werkau was indicted on three federal wire fraud charges in connection with the case.
According to the court documents, Werkau was accused of activating prepaid OneVanilla MasterCard and XBox gift cards. ....

Apr. 8 A Walmart worker stole more than $123,000 in gift cards and shared them with someone he met online, federal prosecutors said.
Kenneth Werkau, 63, is accused of activating the gift cards at a Moundsville, West Virginia, store from September 2019 to January 2020.
But he never paid for the cards at the cash register, the U.S. Attorney s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia said in a news release.
He was indicted Wednesday on three federal wire fraud charges in connection with the case, prosecutors said. ....
