The Trial Court Vacancy Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 9 a.m. at the Montgomery County Historic Courthouse, located at One Millennium Plaza in the Commission Chambers.
Interested individuals, including any members of the public, may attend the public hearing in the Commission Chambers of the Montgomery County Historic Courthouse. The meeting will include a public hearing starting at 9 a.m., during which anyone may express their opinions in opposition to any of the applicants.
All visitors who want to attend the hearing at the Montgomery County Historic Courthouse must check-in with building security, provide a valid government-issued ID, mention that they are present to observe the Trial Court Vacancy Commission Public Hearing and follow all building-mandated COVID-19 protocols for admission to the building. ....

Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery launches volunteer push to chart graves


In Montgomery’s oldest cemetery, more than 80,000 people are buried in 38,000 burial sites. Some sites have up to five bodies stacked on top of each other. Many gravestones are blank because the family couldn’t afford the per-letter cost for engraving a name. Others once had a name but are now worn smooth.
Oakwood Cemetery, with graves dating to the early 1800s, is the last resting place of country legend Hank Williams, along with everyone from governors to slaves. Now, historians, municipal workers and volunteers are partnering to make sure those names and their final resting places are not lost to time. ....
