Fine issued to Kelowna church leader for contravening public health order | iNFOnews

A Kelowna church was hit with a $2,300 fine last week for a gathering held in contravention of the current Public Health Order.
Kelowna Mounties received a report on May 19 just before 7:40 p.m., that a church was allegedly having a gathering indoors contrary to the Provincial Public Health Order. Police attended, conducted an independent investigation and determined that a number of people were on site.
Police spoke with a representative of the church, explained the current COVID-19 regulations and restrictions and the consequences for failing to abide by the Public Health Order. ....

To the Citizens of Rossland From Rossland City Council:
Rossland Mayor Kathy Moore is currently in the USA. While not breaking any laws, she travelled contrary to current Federal and Provincial Public Health recommendations against non-essential travel which has raised significant concerns in our community.
While Mayor Moore has responded publicly on multiple occasions, the other six Rossland City Councillors have collectively considered the matter and wish to share our perspective with the community.
We did not, and do not condone Mayor Moore’s personal decision to travel to the USA. Council and staff were informed via an informal email of her decision to travel, however there was no formal discussion on the matter. Additionally, prior to her trip, some Councillors and staff expressed deep concerns about her plans; however, Mayor Moore made her own decision to travel, for her own reas ....

Kootenay Freedom Peaceful Assembly stages rally in Nelson against COVID-19 health orders

Members of the public against provincial health orders, including the wearing masks, during COVID-19 pandemic once again rallied in Nelson in front of City Hall Saturday afternoon.
The group calling itself Kootenay Freedom Peaceful Assembly hosted the event, which attracted approximately 60 protesters.
Those attending gathered on Ward Street and City Hall courtyard to hear speeches before peacefully marching through the downtown core of Nelson on Baker Street carrying signs protesting Provincial Public Health orders.
“We support informed consent, medical freedom, transparent science, unbiased journalism, human & privacy rights, free speech, democracy (and) opening the economy,” the poster on a Nelson poster board on Baker Street read. ....
