Devotees take holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Maghi Purnima PRAYAGRAJ: Lakhs of devotees, from different parts of the state and the country apart from locals, took a holy dip in the Sangam on the fifth and second last bathing festival of Maghi Purnima, on Saturday. The bathing which commenced at 2.53 pm on Friday continued till Saturday evening despite the auspicious time ending at 1.52pm on Saturday. Around 5 lakh devotees had taken the holy dip by around 12 noon and the numbers swelled to 6.5 lakh by 4pm. A total of 7 lakh devotees had taken a dip by 6pm, according to the mela administration.

Over 15 health surveillance teams were deployed in each sector of the mela ground to track the health of Kalpwasis and other seers staying on the Mela ground. PRAYAGRAJ: Strict surveillance, monitoring of Covid Care Cards (CCC) and intensive testing have helped officials of the UP health department to check the spread of Covid-19 infection among kalpwasis at the ongoing Magh Mela. Mela health officials claimed to have conducted testing of 60,000 kalpwasis since the beginning of Magh Mela and 12 of them tested positive for infection. Once a kalpwasi tested positive for infection, he or she was not only shifted to Covid care centre in kalindipuram but his\her camp was dismantled by the mela administration.

Prayagraj: Scores of devotees took holy dip in Ganga on the occasion of ‘Achala Saptami’ and offered prayers to the Sun God. The footfall started rising since early Friday and the flow continued as the day progressed. Mela police maintained a strict vigil on the ghat and police mobile teams were engaged to regulate the flow of crowd. Noted astrologer Amitabh Gour said Achala Saptami is celebrated on the seventh day of Magh’s ‘shukla paksha’. It is also known as ‘Rath Saptami’ and ‘Arogya Saptami’. He said devotees offer prayer to the Sun God for good health, wealth and prosperity.
