EDWARDSVILLE A Collinsville man was charged with aggravated DUI in one of numerous alcohol- and drug-related felony charges filed Tuesday by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Darel L. Casillas Jr., 51, was charged Feb. 23 with aggravated driving under the influence, a Class 2 felony.
The case was presented by the Collinsville Police Department.
According to court documents, on Sept. 20 Casillas was found to be driving a vehicle while under the influence. It was noted that previous convictions for DUI in 1986, 1993 and 1996 in Madison and Calhoun counties.
Bail was set at $60,000. ....

EDWARDSVILLE Three people face felony charges filed Feb. 23 after attacking police or medical personnel in separate incidents.
Loran R. Collins, 32, of Granite City and Jonathan J. Gagen, 28, of Madison, were charged with aggravated battery, both Class 2 felonies, in separate incidents.
Adam C. Weeks, 33, of Collinsville, was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.
All were separate incidents and the cases were brought by the Granite City Police Department.
According to court documents, on Nov. 30 Collins fought with a Granite City detective, causing lacerations to the officer’s hand that required stitches. ....

EDWARDSVILLE Three Edwardsville men face multiple felony charges after an alleged armed robbery Saturday.
Maurice Leggette Jr., 19; Thomas M. Gumble, 20; and Antonio E. Thigpen Jr., 19, owere each charged on Feb. 22 with two counts of armed robbery, all Class X felonies. Thigpen was also charged with criminal damage to government supported property, a Class 4 felony. Leggette was charged with two counts of aggravated battery, both Class 2 felonies.
The armed robbery and criminal damage charges were brought by the Edwardsville Police Department the battery charges by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. ....

EDWARDSVILLE Keevion K. Coleman, 24, of Madison, has been charged with unlawful possession of cannabis (second subsequent offense), a Class 3 felony, and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, a Class 4 felony.
The case was presented by the Madison Police Department. On Feb. 12 Coleman allegedly was found to be in possession of between 100-500 grams of cannabis. It was noted he had a prior conviction for unlawful possession of cannabis out of St. Clair County in 2019.
Coleman also allegedly attempted to flee from a Madison police officer, causing an accident with another vehicle and causing more than $300 in damage. ....

SPRINGFIELD A bill easing statewide restrictions on firearm suppressors is among several firearms-related bills introduced or sponsored by new State Rep. Amy Elik, R-Fosterburg.
The bill, HB 1891, would allow the civilian ownership and use of suppressors popularly referred to as “silencers” while hunting or at target ranges. The bill is part of a larger nation-wide legislative battle dealing with the issue and is similar to a bill proposed by former state Sen. Bill Haine, D-Alton, in 2018.
Elik’s bill was introduced Feb. 16. The following day State Rep. Andrew S. Chesney, R-Freeport, was added as a co-sponsor, the bill had its first reading and was referred to the Rules Committee. It is among several hundred firearms-related bills that have been introduced, ranging from registration and bans on “assault rifles” to multiple bills d ....
