Cleary | The Herald Bulleton EDGEWOOD A decision has been delayed for 90 days concerning the future of the Edgewood Town Court. The Edgewood Town Council voted Monday to delay action on whether to close the court. Discussion on the possible closure arose after Town Court Judge Scott Norrick was elected judge of Madison Circuit Court Division 5 on Nov. 3. Councilman Art Leak said he supported the delay but said the Anderson and Elwood city courts and the Circuit Courts need to be working on a contingency plan if Edgewood’s court is closed. ....

(WAFF) - In 2019 Lionel Francis was convicted of capital murder in the shooting death of his 20-month-old daughter. He was originally facing the death penalty, but a new decision will change his sentence to life without parole. According to court documents, the jury recommended that Francis be sentenced to death. The Madison Circuit Court accepted the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Francis to death. Now the Alabama court of criminal appeals has vacated the death sentence, saying that for the death penalty to be applied, there must be evidence of an aggravating circumstance. ....
Roger Shoot ANDERSON A local judge has denied a motion to dismiss a lawsuit against a local real estate broker who pleaded guilty in 2016 to felony counts of theft and forgery. Madison Circuit Court Division 1 Judge Angela Warner Sims denied the motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought by the state of Indiana against Roger and Pam Shoot and their business, P.R. Properties LLC and Anderson Homes. Shoot’s attorney requested the dismissal because the state didn’t take any action in the civil complaint from April 2013 through September 2016. The state did request a pretrial conference in September 2019. Shoot pleaded guilty in April 2016 to three Class D felony counts of theft, and one Class C felony count of forgery in a plea agreement approved by then Madison Circuit Court Judge Thomas Newman Jr. ....
