Mr Slattery, who is now based in Brisbane with his family, returned home last week to partake in some Beef Australia 2021 activities. He was among the panel of judges at the Pitch in the Paddock, dubbed the âShark Tankâ of agriculture technology. There were nine finalists with a range of pitches from a castration knife handle, software for truck drivers, pig trap, floating water level sensor, software and apps. âI loved it, the thing I liked about it, it was so diverse in every respect,â Mr Slattery said. âYou had businesses that were really early on in their cycle, that were at the product end and were expanding â¦.an incredibly safe low-cost castration device and artificial intelligence data lag that they are going to use in the beef industry ⦠you couldnât get more diverse.â ....

A unique gender reveal was held at Beef Australia 2021 last week with the assistance of a bull. A group of staff from Queensland Festival and Events, the company running the bars at Rockhampton Showgrounds, gathered around one of the cattle pens on Friday morning. A gender reveal had been organised for staffers Sam and Jacqu Convery, who is 21 weeksâ pregnant. The crowd was instructed to turn around and close their eyes while Beef Australia Stud Cattle Chair brought out the surprise â whether the animal had testicles or not would reveal the gender of the baby. ....

A new attendance record was set this year with 115,866 people through the gates - up from the 100,000 attendance in 2018. More statistics include 11,000 people using the new park and ride service, 4980 head of cattle across the event, 63 tonnes of beef consumed throughout the week, 800 contractors and staff behind the scenes with 150 Beef Australia volunteers. It seemed like every politician was in town at some point with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and 39 state and federal ministers attending the event. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton Emergency Care Centre has experienced a 33 per cent increase in the number of patients in the first four months of 2021 compared with the same period last year. The data also represents a 49 per cent rise in the number of patients presenting between January and April compared with that period in 2019. Executive officer Sue Thurbon chalked the increase up to “greater accessibility and minimal waiting times”, and said the Rockhampton hospital had a long history of providing care to the people of Central Queensland. “Mater has been part of the fabric of the Rockhampton community for more than a century,” she said. ....
