NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Virginia State Police are investigating a shooting on I-664 near the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel Wednesday morning that was the result of road rage.
Around 11:32 a.m., dispatchers got a call from a male victim saying he had been involved in a road rage incident. He said another male in a black sedan was following his vehicle and shot at him and his male passenger.
The initial road rage incident and shooting took place in the northbound lanes of I-664 between the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel and Chestnut Avenue. ....

In case you haven’t noticed the warnings along Interstate 64 and connecting roads, be prepared for an hour-long delay on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel very early Sunday morning, as VDOT runs its pre-hurricane season test of its tide gates.
The gates are the 54-foot wide, 16-foot tall assembly of steel beams and thick steel plates that Virginia Department of Transportation workers would lower if a hurricane or nor’easter brings a storm surge of at least 7½ feet. That’s the height at which the water would come over the bridge and run down into the tunnel, said Ken Reynard, VDOT regional operations director. ....
