CHARITON COUNTY HIGHWAY 139 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT CONSTRUCTION PROJECT PAUSED DURING SETTLEMENT PHASE

Those living near or driving by the Grand River Overflow Bridge on Chariton County Highway 139 have not seen activity at the site for some time, but there is a good reason. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) says bridge construction required significant amounts of dirt to be moved and placed at the site, which needed time to settle and compact before construction on the new bridge can continue. The settlement phase is almost complete, and pending geotechnical testing, the contractor plans to resume work building the new structure over the Grand River Overflow on Monday, May 17. The roadway is scheduled to reopen to all traffic in early July 2021.

ROADWORK SCHEDULED TO CLOSE PORTION OF CHARITON COUNTY ROADWAY

Two roadwork projects are scheduled to take place this week in Chariton County. The Missouri Department of Transportation says Route DD from Routes D to O is scheduled to be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Monday, May 3, through Thursday, May 6, for culvert replacement. Also, bridge maintenance is scheduled on the Yellow Creek bridge on Route CC north of Mendon. This will be an around-the-clock lane closure on Wednesday, May 5, and Thursday May 6. In addition, Highway 139 is closed for a bridge replacement project at the Grand River Overflow Bridge through July. This bridge is included in Governor. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
