With their past experience, confinement was a school of hard knocks for many inmates and art was an avenue to pastime and simply allow creativity to sprout. From being marginalised by society, the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has allowed incarcerated artists to develop their skills and have a source of income for themselves after serving time. ....

While speaking at the event, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau says the inclusion of art in the rehabilitation of inmates in correction services is a worldwide trend and it is a fact that art has been mainstreamed into the rehabilitation work of correction centres. Ratu Epeli says art and artistic expression have transformative powers that can help persons in correction centres develop hidden skills and unlock their potential to contribute to and succeed in their community. ....
Apr 08, 2021 12:13:40 PM The Australian government will provide a further AUD$500,000 ($786,000) for the second phase of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Hub. This will support implementation of the hub’s vision for Pacific Island Countries –sustainability, low-carbon growth and development and climate resilience. Speaking at the launch of the Regional Pacific NDC Hub’s Strategy 2030 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva today, Australian Ambassador John Feakes said the NDC hub is ‘made for the Pacific, by the Pacific’. “And indeed the NDC hub has been conceived, developed and continues to be led by its Pacific Island members, to support the Pacific’s leadership and action on climate change under the Paris Agreement.” ....
