GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A convicted drug dealer who set into motion a chain of events that led to the 2018 overdose death of a Grand Rapids woman was sentenced this week to mandatory life in prison.
A federal judge sentenced 28-year-old Javontae Q. White to a life term for distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. White got lesser sentences on two other drug convictions stemming from the same case. ....

Police identify slaying victim, teen suspect turns self in

The suspected gunman, 17, turned himself in to police on the day of the shooting.
The Grand Rapids teen awaits arraignment in Grand Rapids District Court on charges of open murder and felony firearms.
The shooting happened just before noon on Friday at Stuyvesant Apartments on Madison Avenue SE near Cherry Street.
Grand Rapids police responded to a report of a shooting and found the victim dead inside the apartment building, police said.
Early on, the 17-year-old was considered a person of interest.
