HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui health officials are encouraging youngsters’ families to pre-register for the COVID vaccine so they don’t end up wasting doses.
Pfizer is now available for children as young as 12 years old and there are several school-based clinics across the Valley Isle for students.

Man arrested in infant assault case | News, Sports, Jobs

A 26-year-old Wailea man was arrested Friday in an investigation into an assault on an infant who was severely injured, police said.
The 11-month-old child was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
The man was released pending further investigation of first-degree assault and second-degree assault of the child. Police records indicate the assaults were reported April 30.
The man was being held in two other cases. He was charged with two counts of abuse of a 23-year-old woman between April 16 and 29, with bail set at $1,000.
He also was arrested on bench warrants totaling $70,000 for allegedly violating requirements of his two years’ probation for abuse in a 2019 case. After being placed on probation in May 2020, the man allegedly didn’t report to his probation officer, used alcohol or illegal drugs, didn’t complete anger management and didn’t perform 100 hours of community service, according to court records. ....

Walk-in vaccine clinic underway at hospital

Hawaii Lt. Gov. Josh Green recently administered shots at Maui Health’s vaccine clinic.
WAILUKU Maui Health is holding a walk-in vaccine clinic at the Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) Main Lobby every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month of May.
All eligible residents 16 years of age and older can walk in, without an appointment, to the MMMC Main Lobby clinic during regular hours from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. and receive their vaccine.
Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for 16- and 17-year-olds. Vaccine recipients under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. ....

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man with a criminal history was arrested for manslaughter Thursday following a car crash that killed a woman on Maui.
Maui police said 30-year-old Holden Bingham was driving at an “excessive speed” on Waiehu Beach Road when he lost control and crashed into the shoulder guardrail.
Officials said the vehicle then rolled over before coming to a stop. The crash happened at around 2:15 a.m.
The Maui Police Department said Bingham did not sustain life-threatening injuries, but a 37-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. ....
