Florida woman charged in theft of $470K from veterans’ program, state of Michigan

A Florida woman is facing several charges in the alleged theft of $470,000 from a federal veterans program and the state of Michigan, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office announced today.
As a fourth-time habitual offender, Sophia J. Quill, 60, would face up to life in prison if convicted of any of the nine felony counts she was charged with in front of Judge Mark A. McConnell of the Wayne County 18th District Court via Zoom on Wednesday, April 21.
Quill allegedly worked with two co-conspirators in a scheme to defraud the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Michigan Department of Treasury by creating aliases and fabricating documents to make it appear that she and co-conspirator Melissa Flores were heirs to various individuals who died. ....
