Tuesday night, April 13, newly elected Councilman Tracy Carlson and re-elected Councilwoman Sallie Buck at a special meeting of the Marceline City Council. Later in the meeting council members elected Jeri Holt as Marceline s new mayor, Buck will serve as mayor pro-tem. 
Before the swearing-in ceremony, Tyson Brammer was honored for his six years of service on the council. He served from 2015-2021 and was presented with a recognition plaque from the city and council. 
Before council members voted to accept the results of the April 7 election, City Clerk Lindsay Krupleman noted that the county clerk said the official results were as follows: Sallie Buck received 111 votes, Tracy Carlson, 84 votes; Perry Wiggins, 59 votes and Jeffrey Gulley received 31 votes. The votes for Buck and Wiggins increased by one each, from the preliminary results announced the evening of April 7, Krumpleman ....

Marceline City Council discusses COVID vaccines, trash contracts

The Marceline City Council held its regular monthly meeting the night of Jan. 19 and discussed changing the personnel residency requirements, possibly refinancing the city’s GO Bond and honored former Fire Chief Larry Ervie with a moment of silence.
The meeting began with Councilmen and Fire Chief Jeri Holt asking for a moment of silence for former Fire Chief Ervie who died Jan. 9. Ervie joined the fire dept in 1974, was promoted to chief in 1988 and retired in 2006.
The council discussed COVID vaccines for city employees. Krumpelman said that most city employees are considered essential workers according to a list issued by Gov. Mike Parson. Parson listed law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders and government operations employees, among others as essential workers. ....

During Tuesday night’s regular meeting the Marceline City Council listened to a discussion about insurance coverage for the city, decided not to change a golf cart ordinance and appointed a new city attorney. 
City staff recommended to and the council agreed to retain Chapman and Cowherd, P.C., as city attorney for one year starting Dec. 15.
“He has proven himself already to be a professional and I am glad to have him on board,” City Manager Richard Hoon said.
The council also heard detailed presentations regarding the city’s general liability, auto and workers compensation insurance. ....

Marceline City Council meets, appoints members to Housing Board

At a recent meeting of the Marceline City Council, the council voted unanimously to appoint two new members to the Marceline Housing Authority Board.
Deana Maag was appointed to fill Dean Enyeart’s seat, which will expire May 31, 2022; and  Jackie Schmitt was appointed to fill Paul Stark’s seat to expire May 31, 2024.  Those appointments were effective immediately.
The council also approved a bid for items to be covered with CARES Act funds from the county.
City officials had sought bids for touchless hand dryers, along with soap and hand sanitizer dispensers to be installed in all city facilities. City staff will install the new items. ....
