Doctor Marci Moore-Connelley is the Chief Medical Officer for SIH. She says July has been particularly hard. We were at 2% positive. We had 1-2 patients admitted per week with COVID, and over the last 30 days we ve seen a dramatic increase. We are now at a positivity rate of 15%, and we have - currently - 22 patients in with COVID. ....
Credit SIH As more doses of COVID-19 become available, more people are being added to the groups eligible to receive the shot. SIH Chief Medical Officer Doctor Marci Moore Connelley says there are a of moving parts when it comes to the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine. She says last week, the organization reached out to providers and staff to see how many of the 44-hundred eligible would actually want the shot. Moore Connelley says that number changed as more information came out. People really didn t have all the information they needed to make that decision until it had been approved and was getting delivered to be administered. So, I think a lot of people were on the fence, and some of those on the fence decided to go ahead and say yes. I think we re going to see a lot more of that as the days and weeks go on. ....
CARBONDALE â Health care workers across Southern Illinois were vaccinated this week, bringing a rare moment of celebration for fatigued workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic in this region. On Thursday, Southern Illinois Healthcare employees who were in the first cohort to receive shots were greeted by clapping and cheering colleagues as they made their way inside. The shots were given at the old Great Skate Train building that now serves as SIH s human resources training center. It s been almost a party-like atmosphere, said SIH CEO Rex Budde. Jenny Prest, a registered nurse, blared Pump up the Jam in her car on the way to receive her shot, wanting to get in the right mood for her part in the historic moment. ....
