P.S.U. Says One Year Time Period for Fire Sale Investigation Unacceptable
Last month, Prime Minister John Briceño signed an order convening a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the sale of government assets between October 2019 and November 2020.  The meeting will be held in public, so we’ll get to see how the commission investigates the procedures and processes for the sale of assets by the Barrow administration to determine if any illegality occurred.  If that is the case, those responsible will be identified and criminal and civil cases against them will be pursued. Senior Counsel Andrew Marshalleck chairs the commission.  He is accompanied by Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative Marcello Blake and representative for the Public Service Union Luke Martinez.  Martinez says the P.S.U. is not happy about the short period that the commission is going to investigate.  He says that the past administration was in power for three ....

Commission of Inquiry into Fire Sale of Government Asset to Commence
The selling off of public assets at a steal by the financially-burdened Barrow administration in the months leading up to the November eleventh general elections will be fully investigated.  This morning, the persons tasked with carrying out that investigation were sworn in at the Biltmore Hotel where the oath of office was administered by Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford.  The three-member Commission of Inquiry is being chaired by Senior Counsel Andrew Marshalleck.  Marcello Blake and Luke Martinez are representing the business community and unions, respectively.  The period under review is from 2019 to 2020 when government vehicles, office equipment and furniture were sold at dirt cheap prices.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports. ....

As the Briceño administration settles in, the appointment of new executives to various statutory bodies remains ongoing.  Following the selection of a new board of directors for Belize Telemedia Limited two weeks ago, B.E.L. has also named a chairman and four directors for ordinary shares.  Attorney Andrew Marshalleck has been appointed as the new presiding officer for the utility company, succeeding Senior Counsel Rodwell Williams.  Other executives include Anwar Flores of the Big Creek Group, businessman Anil Hotchandani, Vice President of the Corozal Free Zone, Emilio Zabaneh and Amir Carillo.  The board of directors of Belize Electricity Limited was previously comprised of twelve members, including five from the Government of Belize, three from the Social Security Board, three from Fortis Cayman and one by the board itself.  Those who were appointed by the past U.D.P. government have since resigned and are replaced by the ....
