Stroud District Council seeks partner for Brimscombe regeneration


A developer with the vision to take on the challenge of transforming Brimscombe Port in to a new waterside community is now being sought by Stroud District Council.
The Council has approved the procurement of a development partner to redevelop the industrial site in Brimscombe, creating opportunities for employment and business, commercial activity, retail, community and leisure uses, public space, and the reinstatement of the canal basin which would include more than 150 new homes.
Strategy and Resources Committee approved the move on Thursday, March 4, and Leader Doina Cornell said it was another significant step towards breathing new life in to the former industrial site which was once a thriving inland canal port more than 200 years ago but has become run down over the past several decades. ....

Plans for a waterside community with 150 homes at Brimscombe Port are progressing.
Stroud District Council has worked with partners to develop a vision to breathe new life in to a former industrial site that will see the creation of a vibrant new community with more than 150 homes and bring a historic canal basin back to its former glory.
Brimscombe Port in the heart of the Golden Valley was once a bustling inland port which could cater for 100 vessels – but since the 1950s the canal and basin were filled in and the industrial buildings which followed are now decaying and need replacement. ....
