Polk commissioners tap internal candidate as next county attorney

Polk County attorney Michael Craig is retiring in mid-August.
On Friday, during its public agenda review meeting, the County Commission selected an internal candidate as his replacement.
Randy Mink, 42, a deputy county attorney and 15-year employee, will be the new top attorney pending a final vote by the commission on Tuesday. His contract, including salary and benefits, is still being worked out.
Craig s salary is $206,958.
The county attorney drafts ordinances and policies following direction from the commission, offers legal advice to staff and commissioners and oversees more than 250 pending legal matters that are currently ongoing.
“This is bittersweet,” Mink said Friday of his selection. “I hate that this is at the expense of Micheal leaving, but I’m ready to serve the people of Polk County.” ....

This would be a non-residential use dropped into a residential area. I don’t see it as compatible.”
Commissioner George Lindsey cast the lone vote to approve the project.
When all else fails read the instructions, he said. Staff did their analysis and came to the same conclusion as the planning commission. To characterize this (school) as commercial is a bit of an overstatement. ....
