Elmer Samuel Dyer, 44, was killed early Sunday morning near Melrose when struck by a car driven by Marvin Hamilton of Prineville. A coroner s jury, impaneled Monday night to investigate the death, brought in a verdict declaring that Mr. Dyer had come to his death as the result of being struck by a car driven by Marvin Hamilton, adding that the driver failed to stop at the scene of the accident.
Mr. Hamilton appeared in justice court Tuesday afternoon to plead guilty on charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He was fined $250 and $4 costs by Perey R Smith, justice of the peace, and after paying the fine was released. The penalty carries with it the automatic suspension of his driver s license for one year.
