Pandemic leads to new digital performances at Wild Rose Moon in Plymouth


Matt Scutchfield worked on starting a music school in Ukraine, where the cosmopolitan aura of Europe made him feel most at home.
But as word of the coronavirus started to spiral last February, he packed his violin and Ukrainian string instrument and caught a $150 flight with a zig-zag schedule back to Indiana.
He quickly found himself inside of a performing venue called Wild Rose Moon, a roughly 150-year-old storefront at the center of his hometown, Plymouth, where he played Polish and Ukrainian tunes to benefit his future school.
Here, the avowed big-city person, saying, “I don’t like small anything,” had come to this intimate stage for its last open mic before the pandemic shuttered all of its performances for four months. ....

Marshall County Community Foundation Announces Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipients | WTCA FM 106.1 and AM 1050 The Best, Music, News and Sports


One Marshall County student has been named recipient of a four-year, full tuition scholarship as the Marshall County Community Foundation 2021 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
Mark Bahr will receive not only full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice, but also a $900.00 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.
Mark Bahris the son of Tim and Jackie Bahr, of Bremen, IN.  He attends Bremen Senior High School.  Mark is planning to attend Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and will major in either in business or accounting.
The Lilly Scholarship Selection Committee, consisting of Beth Styers, Chair, Dr. Don Balka, Scott Joyner, Karen Schlosser, John Small Jr., Jared Weidner and Barbara Winters reviewed 31 applications and interviewed several applicants. Top finalists were recommended to the Board of Directors of the Marshall County Community Foundation and then submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) for final selection of the reci ....

On Wednesday morning a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Plymouth Permanent Supportive Housing Project, to be known as Saint Katherina Kasper Serenity Place.
Permanent Supportive Housing is housing that combines permanent, affordable housing with services that help people live more stable, productive lives.  It is not a shelter.  There is no set time limit on length of stay.  Flexible human services designated to meet the special needs of an individual or family are combined with a stable and affordable place to live.
The concept of supportive housing serves persons and families with very low or extremely low incomes.  Often these are individuals or families who are experiencing homelessness and who would have difficulty maintaining permanent housing without ongoing supportive services. ....
