Kathryn Pauline Thomas, age 85, died peacefully in her home on May 1, 2021. Mrs. Thomas, a retired Marshall Public Schools elementary school teacher, passed in the calm assurance of her passage to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall on Wednesday, MAY 12, 2021. Visitation will be open from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. and burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Southside Assembly of God. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com ....

Switching Church and Linn streets from one-way to two-ways will take a little more than a flip of the switch.
The change is what was proposed in the city’s 2019 Downtown Master Plan. In order to make this happen, something else will need to change traffic control. Particularly, traffic control where the streets intersect with Center Street.
Engineering and consulting firm Bolton and Menk was charged with the task of figuring out how to bring the master plan to fruition with the Downtown Implementation Plan. Among the firm’s many recommendations is the recommendation of changing from traffic lights to circular intersections where Linn and Church meet Center Street. ....

The Marshalltown Community School District Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of a fellow board member.
Board member Nicolás “Niko” Aguirre, JBS Marshalltown human resources director, recently accepted a transfer to the JBS Swift Pork Facility in Louisville, Ky. and will be removed from his seat on the board effective May 7.
While Aguirre did not attend the board meeting Monday night where his resignation was accepted, he expressed bittersweet gratitude in his resignation letter to the board. ....

Charming Bennethum, 100, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Cremation rights have been accorded by Anderson Funeral Homes of Marshalltown. There are no service planned at this time. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Charming was born December 2, 1920 to Phillip and Mildred (Halstead) Thomas in Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated from Ferguson High School in 1936. Charming was united in marriage to Marshall “Buss” Fuller in 1938. They were blessed with three wonderful children Judy, Sandi, and Jim. In 1957 Charming was remarried to Ivyl Bennethum where they lived in Loves Park, IL until they retired. After retiring they then moved to Koshkonong, MO eventually moving back to Marshalltown in 1989. Charming was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She loved making pottery, cooking, walking, and just being outside in general. ....

DES MOINES, Iowa The Greater Des Moines Partnership has extended the submission period for the Central Iowa Broadband Internet Survey to Friday, May 14. The extension was implemented in order to obtain the best response rate possible.
The Broadband Internet Survey will help create a clear picture of consumers’ experience with broadband internet service across the region and help identify areas that do not currently meet consumer needs and expectations.
“If you would take a moment and complete the survey it would be greatly appreciated,” said Perry Community and Economic Development Director Mike Fastenau said. “Unfortunately, as of today we are woefully lacking in the number of surveys completed from Perry. Without a sufficient number of responses, we are in danger of not adequately identifying areas within the community that lack broadband access.” ....
