Unkept promises have left hundreds of government doctors a disappointed lot. After being at the centre of COVID-19 care for a year, several government doctors feel the government’s unfulfilled assurances, including the long-pending pay hike and promotions, will be the main issues for them at the Assembly election.
In the last few years, government doctors staged various forms of protests including a seven-day strike by members of the Federation of Government Doctors Association (FOGDA) in October 2019 and held several rounds of talks with the Health Department to resolve the long-pending issues. Doctors affiliated to the Federation of Government Doctors Association (FOGDA) launched a protest on Wednesday by wearing ‘demand badges’ to work. They will continue wearing the badges till February 28 to draw the attention of the State government to their pending demands.
P. Saminathan, general secretary of the Service Doctors and Postgraduates’ Association and a convener of FOGDA, said they had been raising four demands for nearly two years. One of the demands was pay band-4 at 12 years of service. ....

Govt. doctors body demands pay-related announcement in ongoing Assembly session

‘Implement DACP to ensure pay and promotion opportunities’
The Federation of Government Doctors Association (FOGDA) has urged the State government for proper implementation of Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) to ensure pay and promotion opportunities for government doctors.
A review of Government Order 354 that guarantees remuneration hikes and promotions has been pending since 2017. The doctors were demanding pay band-4 at 12 years of service as per a prospective clause of GO 354 for a number of years now, A. Ramalingam, convenor of FOGDA, told reporters on Wednesday.
“Instead, the Health Department is offering us allowances according to specialisations. Our demand for review of GO 354 is not about hike in pay but long-pending promotions. We want proper implementation of DACP that is exclusive for government doctors. In Tamil Nadu, the government implemented DACP in 2009, fixing the promotion and pay hike at 15, 17 and 20 years of service instead of ....

Govt. drops disciplinary action against 114 doctors

This is due to their ‘selfless service’ during the pandemic
The Health Department has decided to drop the disciplinary proceedings initiated against 114 government medical officers for participating in an indefinite strike last year.
Several doctors affiliated to the Federation of Government Doctors Association went on a strike to put forward their demands, including proper implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression scheme, in October 2019. The Health Department had then said participating in the strike would attract violation of Rule 20 and 22 of the Tamil Nadu Government Servant Conduct Rules, 1973.
As the doctors went ahead with the strike, the Health Department initiated disciplinary proceedings against 114 of them 32 doctors from institutions under the Directorate of Medical Education, 31 from the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services and 51 from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. ....
