Andrew Laming defends fresh funding to organisations run by LNP branch president

“Records indicate no member of parliament conflict of interest declarations were received with respect to these grants,” a department spokesperson said late last week.
In the latest round of grants, announced by Laming last week, Community Connections received $14,885 for the purchase of cinema equipment, while Redlands Coast Salad Bowl received a $5,000 grant for solar panels.
This is in addition to a $10,000 grant received by Community Connections and an $11,500 grant received by Redlands Salad Bowl before the last election.
According to information obtained from the Queensland Office of Fair Trading, the two organisations were both officially registered in August 2018 and they received the grants just four months later in the run-up to the 2019 federal election. ....

Liberal MP Andrew Laming awarded grants to two organisations run by LNP branch president

Both organisations were co-founded by the president of the Liberal National party’s Redlands branch, Craig Luxton. The secretary of both of the organisations is Laming’s own electorate officer, Stephanie Eaton.
Guardian Australia has previously reported that Laming awarded a $550,000 grant to a rugby club with links to Eaton under the government’s female facilities and water infrastructure scheme – a $150m grant program that was allocated during the election campaign.

Liberal MP Andrew Laming awarded $550,000 grant to rugby club linked to his staffer

As the government continues to resist pressure over Laming’s reported behaviour, Guardian Australia can reveal that Laming gave $550,000 to a sports club with links to a staff member in his electorate office.
The grant was awarded to the Southern Bay Cyclones rugby union club for the redevelopment of a clubhouse at the Charlie Buckler Memorial sports field at Redland Bay.
The secretary of the Southern Bay Cyclones is James Eaton, who is married to Laming’s electorate officer, Stephanie Eaton.
When Laming announced the grant, he posed with James Eaton at the clubhouse. Guardian Australia understands there was no disclosure of the personal link to one of his long-serving electoral officers. ....

The Australian Electoral Commission has asked Facebook to provide information about dozens of pages operated by Andrew Laming, as Labor calls for the government to cut ties with the besieged MP.
Guardian Australia understands the AEC’s legal services team made contact with Facebook on Thursday morning as it began its investigation into a slew of pages operated by Laming under the guise of community and news groups without political disclosures.
Laming faces a potential fine of up to $26,000 for each breach of the Commonwealth Electoral Act, but the AEC has not penalised anyone for non-compliance since legislation was beefed up after the 2016 election. ....
