Routines are changing, as COVID-19 vaccinations become more widely available and public health restrictions gradually ease. People are ready to get back to pre-pandemic normal. But their pets might have a hard time adjusting to being alone again.
Bob Ryder is a dog trainer who owns Pawsitive Transformations in Bloomington. He said stay-at-home orders and school closures changed dogs’ daily lives and they’ll feel the impact again as things reopen.

Some pet dogs need expensive therapy after lockdowns

Many dogs got used to having human company around all the time after lockdowns began in March 2020, and now that life is beginning to return to normal for some, the dogs need some help readjusting. Expert animal trainer Malena DeMartini-Price says, “We’ve been inundated with inquiries from worried dog guardians.
They’re taking little trips out of the house, and their pets are shredding the carpets, and neighbors are complaining about barking.” She adds that one of her clients spent $4,800 so far to help her 18-month-old dog adjust to the fact that its owner will be returning to work in less than two weeks. DeMartini-Price add that to help your dog, you should start preparing your pet for separation as soon as you can, begin setting up cameras in your home to observe your dog for brief periods when you are absent (and if they show signs of anxiousness consult your veterinarian), and gradually expose your dog to longer dur ....
