Eaton leads Arkansas State past Texas-Arlington in OT


JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) – Marquis Eaton had 18 points as Arkansas State got past Texas-Arlington 83-75 in overtime on Friday night. Norchad Omier and Malcolm Farrington added 15 points each for the Red Wolves. Omier also had 20 rebounds.
Caleb Fields had 14 points and seven assists for Arkansas State (6-8, 3-4 Sun Belt Conference), which earned its fifth consecutive home victory.
Sam Griffin scored a career-high 28 points and had six rebounds for the Mavericks (8-9, 4-5). Shahada Wells added 19 points. Patrick Mwamba had 11 points. Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu had four points, nine rebounds, and six blocks.
Mwamba hit a 3-pointer to give UTA a 75-74 lead with 2:43 left in overtime but the Red Wolves scored the final nine points. The Mavericks committed a turnover and went 0 for 4 from the field in the last two minutes. ....

LAFAYETTE, La. (1/23/21) – Trailing by 20 with 15:04 to play, the Arkansas State men’s basketball team trimmed the deficit to two, but Louisiana came away with a 77-74 victory over the Red Wolves Saturday at the Cajundome.
Norchad Omier once again led A-State (5-8, 2-4 Sun Belt) with a double-double effort of 15 points and 13 rebounds, his 10th-straight outing with 10 or more rebounds. Christian Willis scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and Malcolm Farrington added 10 points off the bench. Marquis Eaton had 10 points and a game-high seven assists while Tim Holland had eight points and four rebounds in his first start. Cedric Russell and Jacobi Gordon led Louisiana (11-4, 5-3 Sun Belt) with 14 points each. ....

Eleven 3-point field goals helped the Arkansas State men’s basketball to a 74-72 win over ULM Friday at First National Bank Arena.
A-State (4-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) finished 11-of-24 (.458) beyond the arc, hitting 10 of its first 15 (.667) from long range. ULM (4-8, 2-3 Sun Belt) did not make a 3-pointer until the 10:39 mark of the second half, finishing 3-of-19 (.158) from 3-point range.
Caleb Fields paced A-State with 19 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists. Malcolm Farrington had 15 points, finishing 5-of-11 from 3-point range while Caleb London added 10 points, a season-high for both players. Norchad Omier had a game-high 12 rebounds, his seventh-consecutive game with 10 or more rebounds. Koreem Ozier led the Warhawks with 22 point ....

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/20/20) – Norchad Omier tallied his fourth straight double-double on Sunday afternoon, leading Arkansas State to a 90-50 victory over Champion Christian at First National Bank Arena.
Omier tallied a team-high 14 points and 16 rebounds in just 20 minutes to become the first A-State player since Anthony Livingston in 2014-15 with four straight double-doubles. The Red Wolves (3-4) shot 50.8 percent from the field (44.4 percent from three-point range) en route to the dominant victory over the Tigers. ....
