At least 24 COVID-19 patients on ventilator support suffocated to death on Wednesday when their oxygen supply stopped suddenly because of a malfunction in the main storage at a civic-run hospital in Nashik in Maharashtra, officials said.
The government will probe if the tragedy at the Dr Zakir Husain Hospital was due to negligence, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.
A private company looked after the tank maintenance at the hospital, District Collector Suraj Mandhare said, adding technicians closed the tank valve preventing more deaths. ....

Twenty-four coronavirus patients died in Maharashtra on Wednesday after oxygen supply was affected due to a leakage in the main storage tank of a hospital in Nashik city, reported
The Indian Express.
The incident took place at Zakir Hussain Hospital and led to oxygen supply being stopped for around 30 minutes. The hospital was run by the Nashik Municipal Corporation to treat Covid-19 patients, according to PTI.
A senior civic official said that of the 150 patients admitted to the hospital, 23 were on ventilator support at the time of the incident, while the rest were on oxygen support. The incident came at a time when Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state due to the coronavirus pandemic, is struggling with oxygen shortages to t ....

At least 24 COVID-19 patients on life support died after an oxygen tank leak disrupted the supply at Dr. Zakir Hussain Hospital in Nashik, Maharashtra, on Wednesday.
Attributing the leakage to a valve malfunction, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said a high-level probe had been ordered to ascertain if the incident was caused by negligence. ....
