Kannur is blessed with large tracts of mangrove forests spread over government and private lands. However, large-scale felling of mangroves was recently noticed in private lands at Pattuvam, Ezhome, Cherukkunu, and Kandakali in Payyanur. Kishtwar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Ashok Sharma today chaired a meeting of the members of District Environment Committee (DEC) and reviewed the progress of implementation of District Environment Plan (DEP) in the district.
The meeting discussed the action taken or to be taken by the executing agencies for environmental conservation and improving parameters in the district as envisaged in the District Environment Plan.
The meeting discussed all the action areas taken up by different departments of district including clarification of observations raised by department of Forest, Ecology and Environment regarding revision of the DEP, preparation of revised action plan for restoration of water bodies in district, restoration/creation of ponds/water bodies, enforcement and monitoring guidelines for sand mining, implementation of action Plan for enforcement of E-waste/Solid waste/Biomedical waste / Industrial waste management rules besides Air quality and water ....
