Terrebonne man, Jacob Fay Luke Sr., convicted in 2019 police chase


A 32-year-old Terrebonne Parish man was convicted Thursday evening of multiple felony charges resulting from a 2019 police chase. 
Jacob Fay Luke Sr., of Gray, was convicted of aggravated flight from an officer with human endangerment, resisting an officer by force or violence, attempted battery of a police officer and attempted possession of methamphetamine.  
Luke’s conviction resulted from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours April 11, 2019, in the Mobile Estates area of Gray. A State Police trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop on a car Luke was driving, but the defendant refused to pull over, prosecutors said.  ....

Houma man sentenced to 18 years after pleading guilty to molestation


A 54-year-old Houma man was ordered to serve 18 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two young girls. 
Chester Champagne Jr. pleaded guilty May 10 to two counts of molestation of a juvenile under 13 and one count of aggravated crime against nature, court records show. 
After Champagne entered his pleas, District Judge Timothy Ellender Jr. of Houma sentenced him to 18 years in prison, 10 of which must be served without probation, parole or early release. 
Champagne must also participate in a treatment program and register for life as a sex offender, Terrebonne Executive Assistant District Attorney Carlos Lazarus said. He must also have no contact with any of the victims during the duration of the sentence.  ....

Man indicted in deadly Houma party shooting
A Thibodaux man has been indicted in a deadly shooting that occurred at a party in Houma last year. 
After reviewing the evidence Thursday, a Terrebonne Parish grand jury charged Landon Johnson, 23, with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 
Johnson is accused of fatally shooting 36-year-old Jason Livas, of Thibodaux, during the early morning hours of Nov. 21 at a party on the east side of Houma.  
An indictment does not presume guilt or innocence but indicates the grand jury found prosecutors presented enough evidence to warrant a trial on the charges.  ....

Grand jury indicts Houma man in fatal apartment shooting
A Houma man has been indicted in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in December. 
A grand jury found enough evidence Thursday to charge Joseph Simmons III, 28, with second-degree murder. He is accused of killing Troy Taylor Jr. on Dec. 5 at the Cameron Isles Apartment Complex, 711 Enterprise Drive. 
An indictment does not presume guilt or innocence but indicates the grand jury found prosecutors presented enough evidence to warrant a trial on the charges. 
Taylor, a resident of the apartment complex, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.  ....
