Over 27,000 students in 18 local colleges in Bicol benefit from free college education law – CHED – Manila Bulletin

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Monday, May 10, confirmed that more than 27,000 students enrolled in 18 local colleges in the Bicol Region now benefit from programs under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017 or Republic Act 10931 particularly the Free Higher Education (FHE) and Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES).

Salceda: House to resume deliberations on economic Cha-cha

Salceda, House ways and means committee chairman and a principal sponsor of the proposed Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 2 which would amend economic restrictions of the 1987 Constitution, also renewed calls for the Senate to pass its own counterpart measure.
“The House will do its part. That is for certain. But we hope the Senate begins deliberating soon. The timing is efficient, since we could have the plebiscite along with the 2022 elections,” Salceda said.
Salceda also reassured that the House has no intent of introducing political provisions to the proposed revisions. ....

Salceda: Lockdown extensions sans healthcare expansion will strangle PH economy

‘’So, if we will extend the lockdown for another round, we should make the extension worth the pain,’’ Salceda, chairman of the House ways and means committee, said.
His statement comes as the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases announced that it has recommended another week of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) starting April 5.
Salceda, however, said extensions only work with expanded health care capacity and testing.
‘’The very premise of extensions is that they are time bought to prepare a stronger healthcare response. If there will be no changes in our ICU (intensive care unit) capacity, we will merely be deferring new surges of infection for later,’’ he explained. ....

Salceda wants all health workers vaccinated against COVID-19 this month

Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda on Friday called on the government to vaccinate health care workers this month to prepare for a possible surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases amid the emergence of a new coronavirus variant from the United Kingdom.

“We have to vaccinate our health care workers early, so that they can save lives without risking their own. We need to prepare for surge capacity at the earliest sign of a real new surge,” Salceda said in his statement.
“The main risk is really getting the healthcare system overwhelmed. Because, even if the new strain itself is less serious, if you can’t treat people anymore because you are fully occupied, the risks escalate,” he added. ....
