LALAMUSA: Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Afzal Hayat Tarar said cases have been registered against six accused over child labour act violation last month.
Addressing a meeting of District Vigilance Committee for Labor, he said challans of 73 accused were sent to the competent count for paying less to employees than the fixed wage. He said so far, 345 social security cards have been issued to workers in the district.
He said labour, health, NADRA, Social Security Department would set up joint campuses at the beginning of the season for the welfare of the workers and cases would be registered against those who do not pay the wages fixed by the Punjab government. ....

Over 1,592-acre state land retrieved from land grabbers

FAISALABAD: The district administration has retrieved over 1,592 acres commercial/agriculture state land worth Rs 13 billion from land grabbers during the last 23 days.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali informed in a briefing session on Sunday that over 207 acres land worth Rs 4.28 billion had been retrieved in Tehsil Sadar so far. Similarly, he added, 6-Kkanal land worth Rs 2.73 billion in Tehsil City, over 335 acres in Tehsil Jaranwala and over 50 acres land worth Rs 628.9 million had been retrieved in Tehsil Tandlianwala.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali while addressing a District Vigilance Committee meeting said that the district administration would resolve the problems of kiln workers on top priority. He said that the departments concerned should improve their performance and mobilise the kiln owners to pay wages and give social security cards to the workers. ....

Non-formal schools open at six kilns

LALAMUSA: Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa has said that non-formal schools have been opened at six kilns for the education of children of labourers in the district.
He said this while addressing a meeting of District Vigilance Committee here on Sunday. Deputy Director Labour Muhammad Usman gave a briefing to the meeting. Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa said that he would personally approach the commissioner of Social Security for the appointment of specialist doctors in Social Security Hospital.
He informed that 90pc of the kilns had been shifted to the zigzag technology in Gujrat district. Cases had been registered against three businessmen for violating child labour laws, he told. Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwar directed the Education Department that no child, including the children of kiln workers, should be barred from entering the school due to unavailability of Form-B. ....
