Tapestry in a knot over €10k funding shortfall


An offer of €5,000 towards the costs of the Ros Tapestry building in New Ross is only one third of what is required, councillors said at Wednesday s New Ross Municipal District meeting.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Whelan raised the matter, saying: I and other councillors made representations on behalf of the Ros Tapestry to the economic section. They didn t get all of what they wanted but a substantial amount of money and help in reducing their costs. Unfortunately it has been a tough year for all tourist attractions in the town and in our area.
Cllr Pat Barden said: €5,000 from the economic department isn t much when we re spending €725,000 on our destination towns project and several more major projects are being financed. This project is looking for €15,000 which is absolutely buttons. I cannot see how the offer of €5,000 would be looked at favourably. We need to look after this project which is very important for the town. They are in Kilkenny at the moment ....

The revolving door of politics, public administration and the private sector has become a well-greased, operating outfit in Australia. Former bureaucrats, public service officials and elected representatives rarely struggle with the conflict of interest issues that arise when lobby groups recruit them. In some cases, the water flows the other way: those in the private sector find employment in government with a remit that covers companies that they, at some point or rather, worked for.
The revolving door has its defenders. Those skilled in government should be tapped on retirement or leaving office. Knowledge of the inner workings of state can be valuable to private sector companies and NGOs keen to strike up deals. Highlights
- Cash balance at the end of the December quarter (the quarter) was $38.5 million, up from the $26.3 million balance at 30 September 2020, reflecting:
- $16.6 million net cash flow from operations (before exploration and finance costs) which includes the receipt of proceeds from the pre-sale of 3.5 PJ of gas to be delivered in 2022 and 2023
- Principal repayments under debt facilities of $1.0 million. Macquarie pre-sale gas deliveries totaled 437 TJ, and 170 TJ of previously over-lifted gas was returned.
- Net Debt was $31.2 million at 31 December, down from $44.6 million at the end of September and $57.8 million 12 months ago. ....
