Pianist and band leader Irving Flores, 54, is a mainstay of the San Diego and Tijuana jazz and Latin-music scenes. He is now producing and arranging an album of jazzy Christmas music for trombonist and singer Dave Scott. It is due out later this year. irvingflores.com
My last gig as a headliner was March 1, 2020, at Dizzy’s with the Irving Flores Afro-Cuban Quartet, which features Fernando Gomez on drums, Dean Hulett on bass and Amilkar Peña on congas. It was a beautiful concert, full of jazz, Latin flavor, great improvisations and the nice feedback of the audience. There were no face masks. People were still shaking hands, and friends gave us hugs. ....

African-American history is living history, building upon what has been established as well as establishing new blocks to build upon. Mississippi is profoundly rich in African-American history, being “ground zero” for so much of our collective experiences.
As we say farewell to 2021’s African-American History Month, we here at

Sadness at death of Liam Reilly from Bagatelle


Mr Reilly s family confirmed in a statement the sad news that he had died.
With sad hearts, the family of Liam Reilly, musician, songwriter and front-man of Bagatelle, wish to confirm that he passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home on January 1, 2021, read the statement. We know that his many friends and countless fans around the world will share in our grief as we mourn his loss, but celebrate the extraordinary talent of the man whose songs meant so much to so many.
We ask that you respect the family s privacy at this difficult time.
The band was formed in 1978 in a flat in Bray, with two of its members being from the town - Ken Doyle and the late John O Brien. Over more than 40 years, Dundalk man Liam Reilly and Bagatelle had many hits including Summer in Dublin, Trump Card, Streets of New York, and Second Violin. ....

Senior Center: Program on John Wilkes Booth looks at plot to topple government


There is still time for you to call us at 763-295-2000 to sign up for a very interesting presentation.  When John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War was ending, and emotions were high.  Killing the President was just part of Booth’s plan.  Join us to explore this fragile time in our history and the plot that very nearly succeeded in toppling the government.  You can hear that story on Tuesday, December 15 at 1 p.m.  The speaker, David Jones, has been giving historical presentations since 1996 and is extremely well-versed about the topics he presents.  David will be joining us via Zoom.  You can come and watch the presentation on the community center big screen, or we can email you the Zoom link so you can participate from your home.  Hope you will enjoy the show! ....
