Western University students will need COVID-19 shot to live in residence

At least one dose of the COVID vaccine will be mandatory for students who want to live in Western University’s residences this fall, the school said Thursday.
“With accelerated COVID-19 vaccination rollout across the region, Western University is preparing for a full return to in-person classes while prioritizing the health and safety of the campus community,” Western said in a statement.

An unvaccinated 24-year-old London-area man has died of COVID-19, health officials said Thursday –one of the youngest local victims of the pandemic so far.
“It’s a shock this week to see another death in such a young person,” Chris Mackie, medical officer of health for Middlesex-London Health Unit, said during a media briefing Thursday.

University in Ontario becomes first to require COVID-19 vaccine for students in residence

A Canadian university will require some students to be at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19 when they return to school this fall.
Ontario’s Western University announced on May 27 that students living in residences will need to have received their first dose by the time they move in.
Those who haven’t been vaccinated will have 14 days following their arrival to get immunized on campus.
Students who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons or “other protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code” can request an accommodation.
The measure will also apply to students living in residence at Western’s affiliated colleges – Brescia, Huron, and King’s. ....

London Beer Store location closing after staff COVID-19 case

MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT.
The Beer Store location at 3069 Wonderland Rd. S. is closing temporarily after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The organization says the staff member last worked at the store on May 2.
In a statement they added, Contact tracing is being coordinated with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. All indications are that the employee contacted COVID-19 through community transmission and not in the workplace.
All employees who may have been exposed are either monitoring for symptoms or self-isolating depending on their circumstances, however the company says all employees at the location were wearing mandatory face coverings.
The statement continued, As our team member receives care, we are sending our positive thoughts and best wishes. ....
