The court heard Mr Poulsen’s lawyers and police prosecution were in the process of compiling an agreed statement of facts.
A brief of evidence was ordered for the assault charge, which was listed for hearing on August 25.
The animal cruelty charge will be dealt with once the assault charge was finalised.
The case will be mentioned again in July.

Dawn Service: It will start at 4.28am at the Carmila Memorial Hall, 16 Music Street, with a free community breakfast to follow.
Morning Service: The march will leave at 10.30am from the Carmila Police Station heading to the Memorial Hall for the 11am Morning Service. This is followed by a free lunch.
Clermont:
Dawn Service: A parade from the corner of Capricorn and Herschel streets will depart at 4.20am to the RSL at 1 Haig Street where the dawn service will begin from 4.28am.

Communities across the Isaac region will stand together this year to commemorate the ANZACs, as dawn and morning services go ahead.
Residents are encouraged to attend the services for Anzac Day on Sunday, April 25.
Isaac region Mayor Anne Baker said the district would pay tribute to the sacrifices of Diggers past and present.
“We will remember the tenacity, resilience and heroism our soldiers have shown us,” Mrs Baker said.
“We will honour the strong sense of solidarity, sentiment and pride as we come together to remember the ANZACs and all those who fought for our country.”
