The Broad Street Market’s well-known sign that has greeted regulars, residents, and city guests in Midtown Harrisburg for over two decades took a lashing during a December windstorm and is now in need of repairs.
A fundraising campaign was recently launched to help the nonprofit pay for upgrades to the city’s popular landmark, said Broad Street Market Executive Director Josh Heilman. The project is expected to cost about $40,000, he said.
“It’s very popular in the neighborhood,” Heilman said. “The sign means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. People pose in front of it for anniversary pictures, graduation pictures, and wedding pictures.” ....

The Dauphin County Commissioners recently awarded $6.1 million to municipalities, schools and organizations in the county.
The funds are from the gaming dollars from Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in East Hanover Township and available through the casino local share revenue program.
The Dauphin County Gaming Advisory Board presented recommendations to the commissioners for recipients of funding. Those recommendations were made following application and hearing processes. The Gaming Advisory Board said it considered and prioritized public interest, emergency and human services, transportation, and infrastructure ....
