Journalists, politicians urged to stand on truth to salvage Nigeria

The Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Revd. Martin Uzoukwu, has enjoined politicians and media practitioners in Nigeria to stand on the path of truth to salvage the country.
Uzoukwu, who made the call on Sunday as part of activities to mark the 55th World Communication Day at the St. Michael Catholic Cathedral Church, Minna, stated that whatever they do, they will be accountable to God.
The cleric speaking on this year’s theme “Come and see” at a Media lunch/interactive session with Journalists in Niger state stated that the country is passing through difficult times and it’s only by standing for the truth that it can survive. ....

Resign if you cannot secure your citizens - Archbishop Onayekan tells Buhari govt


The former President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria and the Archbishop of Abuja, John Onayekan has asked the current administration to quit the stage if it can no longer protect and secure the lives of citizens.
The cleric made the call while condemning the latest trend of dialoguing with the bandits in the country.
He told the government to stop pretending to be in charge when it was obvious that non-state actors have taken over the country.
Onayekan stated this during an interview with newsmen after the ordination of the Auxillary Bishop of Minna Diocese
“If the government cannot secure the lives of the people, they should call for a kind of national cohesion. They should stop pretending that they are the ones ruling. In some countries when these incidents happen, it gets to a stage where the government will call for national unity where everyone comes on board to proffer solutions.” ....

Archbishop John Onaiyekan, former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, has asked the current administration to vacate power if it can no longer protect lives and property.
Speaking with journalists in Minna, Niger State capital, after the ordination of the Auxiliary Bishop of Minna Diocese, the Cleric lamented the high rate of crime in the country.
