Okinawa hospitals forced to limit patients
Hospitals in Japan s southern prefecture of Okinawa are moving to limit the number of patients they see or admit as the rapid spread of the coronavirus has caused a shortage of hospital beds.
In Okinawa, hospital beds for coronavirus carriers were 97.9 percent full as of Tuesday. Beds for other patients were 93.5 percent occupied.
Nanbu Medical Center & Children s Medical Center in Haebaru Town has declared itself in a state of emergency, and announced it will impose daily caps on outpatients and inpatients through June 20.
The center says hospitalization could be delayed depending on bed availability, and that patients in need of urgent care will be given priority. ....

Tokyo 2020 Torch Relay "in disarray" after further positive COVID-19 cases

The Tokyo 2020 Torch Relay has suffered its most serious disruption so far on the first day of its scheduled visit to the islands of Okinawa as organisers revealed six further positive COVID-19 tests connected to the event.
The cases had been reported after the stage in Kagoshima which took place earlier in the week before a two day break whilst the Flame was taken to Okinawa.
The
Mainichi Shimbun has reported that the Torch Relay was in disarray.
The newspaper said: From the very beginning, the months-long event was faced with a dilemma between fostering momentum for the games and maintaining coronavirus preventive measures. And now, the virus resurgence is hitting the Relay head-on. ....

The Okinawa region has been experiencing cloudy skies since the beginning of December. The Okinawa Meteorological Observatory expects more cloudy and rainy days than usual for about a month between December 5 and January 4, 2021. The sunshine duration is expected to be about the same or lower than usual. High atmospheric pressures over the continent extending out to Okinawa and a trough of low atmospheric pressure are cited as factors. ....
