Two north-east care workers are helping to transform the lives of people with disabilities after taking dramatic career changes.
With Covid affecting many aspects of everyday life, the role of carers has proved crucial over the last year.
This includes the work carried out by the likes of 65-year-old Catherine Stuart, who previously worked in a factory manufacturing computer tape and robots.

London health startup Cera is set to hire 5,000 new employees as it looks to double its headcount this year.
Cera, which uses AI to provide in-home care, said it is recruiting data scientists and analysts, software engineers, IT professionals and operational and logistical staff, as well as frontline care workers. 
The company said its recruitment drive will specifically target those who have lost work from industries hardest hit by the pandemic, such as retail, hospitality, airlines and fitness. ....

Clacks woman helps bring a little joy to Ugandan children


AN ALLOA woman has managed to put smiles on faces at a Ugandan school with a delivery of books, just in time for Christmas.
Nicola Kirkpatrick, who is taking part in the Miss United Kingdom Rose beauty pageant, recently sent out English reading and maths books to children in the African country.
It came as she has been getting involved with various charitable activities as part of the pageant.
And she was overwhelmed when she received pictures of smiling children at St Adrian Orphanage Junior School in Jjongoza, Rakai District.
Nicola started off by writing letters to the children at the school in Uganda s central region, having come across an appeal online. ....
