Milton Area graduation to be in-person

May 5—MILTON — The 165 members of the graduating class of Milton Area School District will now have in-person graduation on June 1 following the announcement on Tuesday that all but one of Pennsylvania's COVID-19 mitigation restrictions will be lifted by Memorial Day. Ground broken for new Milton Area athletic complex


Milton Area School District broke ground on a new $12 million athletic complex.

MILTON, Pa. With shovels in hand, officials with the Milton Area School District officially broke ground for the district s $12 million athletic complex.
Our stadium was built in 1948, so we have really made some great strides and improvements in working towards a brand new athletic complex, Superintendent Dr. Cathy Keegan said.
The new stadium will have a turf field and an all-weather track.  
First of all, it s going to improve our playing, smoother ground. I think it will honestly bring more people out to come and see the games, or maybe even be a part of the band because it s a better environment, Ashley Shamblen said.  ....

MILTON — The COVID-19 pandemic has again closed schools, restaurants and gyms, but churches are continuing to find innovative ways to minister in the midst of the pandemic.
With the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, the Rev. Dr. Steve Shirk of the First Presbyterian Church of Milton said his congregation was faced with the “difficult decision” of whether or not to close its doors.
“Our session made the unique decision to encourage our people to stay home and stay safe,” Shirk said. “We’ve decided not to close. That has lowered our (in-person attendance) numbers a little bit.” ....

Year in Review: COVID-19 impacted everyone


MILTON — The coronavirus pandemic impacted nearly every aspect of life in the Central Susquehanna Valley, with non-essential businesses being forced to close their doors, churches conducting services online and schools switching to virtual learning models.
With few cars passing along Broadway on March 16 in Milton, the owners of two restaurants located in the heart of the downtown business area expressed their concerns about the impact the coronavirus could have on their livelihoods.
“This is awful, mostly for my employees,” Lisa Showers, the owner of Lisa’s Milltown Deli, said as she stood behind the counter at her business. “I’m really worried about them. We have to cut the hours just to break even.” ....
