A 23-year-old man who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of two of his friends and causing serious injury to another person has been jailed for five years and three months at Donegal Circuit Court.
Joseph Gilroy, from Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, had pleaded guilty to a number of charges including dangerous driving causing the deaths of two people, causing serious bodily harm to another person, driving without a licence and without insurance, and driving while disqualified when the car he was driving crashed in Bundoran in August 2018.
A previous court sitting heard that on the night of the crash, Gilroy and his friends had been socialising in Fermanagh before travelling to Bundoran in Co Donegal to go to a nightclub. ....

Gilroy has been jailed for jailed for five years and three months
A man has been jailed for causing the death of two of his friends and seriously injuring a third person in a car crash in the Republic of Ireland.
Joseph Gilroy from County Fermanagh, lost control of the overcrowded car he was driving after leaving a nightclub in Bundoran, County Donegal on 19 August 2018.
The 23-year-old from Lisnaskea admitted causing death by dangerous driving.
He was jailed for five years and three months at Donegal Circuit Court.
Sentencing on Tuesday, Judge John Aylmer said that the crash had a devastating impact on so many victims and their families. ....

A man who admitted sexually assaulting a teenage girl and a woman in a bar has walked free from court after a judge accepted that medication had affected his behaviour.
Care-assistant Matthew McDonald (39) of Bluestack Drive, Donegal town, approached the 17-year-old girl and the 24-year-old woman in The Reveller Bar in the town on July 27, 2017 and offered to buy them drinks.
He bought three Jaeggerbombers but as he was chatting to the them he assaulted them putting his hand up one of their skirts, touching another’s breasts and bottom.
The victims were shocked and pleaded with a barmaid to ask McDonald, now aged 39, to leave. ....
