The Times-Reporter The United Way of Tuscarawas County celebrated the conclusion of its 78th annual fundraising campaign with a virtual awards ceremony sponsored by Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. Bob Alsept, superintendent of Buckeye Career Center and 2020 United Way campaign chair, announced a record breaking campaign total of $604,439.98. “This is an amazing total. As a person who was born in Tuscarawas County and has spent most of my life in this area, I am not surprised. I have seen this county pull together time after time. This campaign is no different. The pandemic has created uncertainty and great need,” stated Alsept. “It would have been understandable for the people of our area to hold back and conserve resources, but residents gave more than ever before. They dug deeper to help their neighbor. Included in this total is over $82,000 donated to the Covid-19 Community Response Fund. At its recent annual meeting, First Federal Community Bank, SSB announced the promotion of three employees. Brad Meyers was promoted to executive vice president and Alisha Rhoades and Bow Willis were promoted to vice president. Meyers joined the bank as a vice president in 2015 after he and his wife, Neda, moved to Paris from Elgin, Oklahoma. He was promoted to senior vice president in 2017. He has more than 20 years of banking experience in Lawton, Duncan, and Elgin, Oklahoma. He works primarily as a commercial loan officer but has responsibilities in operations as well. Meyers is a graduate of East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and the Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado. He is a board member of Cypress Basin Hospice. ....
Highlights The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently published two final rules revising its Ability-to-Repay/Qualified Mortgage Rule (ATR/QM Rule). The ATR/QM Rule generally requires lenders, before making a residential mortgage loan to a consumer, to make a reasonable good faith determination of the consumer s ability to repay the loan according to its terms. One of the two final rules (Amended General QM Rule) modifies the requirements for a loan to qualify as a general qualified mortgage (General QM) as well as certain other provisions in the ATR/QM Rule and eliminates the government-sponsored enterprise qualified mortgage (GSE QM) category. The other final rule (Seasoned QM Rule) adds a new QM category (Seasoned QMs). Both final rules become effective on March 1, 2021. ....
Beginning Nov. 1, Crawford-Opoly CRAWFORD COUNTY As businesses to continue navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, and much of the public considers how to support their local businesses, multiple Crawford County businesses have teamed up to encourage shopping local in a fun way, “Crawford-Opoly”. “We’ve made a game out of shopping local,” said Miranda Jones, executive director of the Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce. “We thought this was a fun way to support our businesses, especially our retailers and restaurants. Whether it’s generating more purchases, or simply encouraging someone to reacquaint themselves with some of Crawford County businesses, it’s a perfect excuse to shop local in November as the holidays approach.” ....
NEW PHILADELPHIA As it has done in the past two years, the Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army exceeded its goal in its annual Red Kettle Campaign this Christmas. The local organization collected $150,816.23 during the 2020 campaign, according to Lt. Andrew Allen, who commands the local citadel with his wife, Lt. Amanda Allen. The goal was $140,000. We definitely exceeded it. It s a big deal considering the year we re living and the circumstances surrounding our campaign, Allen said. All of the money raised stays in Tuscarawas County. It is used to fund programs for area youth and to assist families in need. He thanked the community for its support, and praised volunteers who rang bells at area stores. ....
