Recently appointed Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Silvia Spires has hit the ground running in her new position, reaching out to area business owners and working on her plan to increase tourism here with the help of concentrated social media marketing.
With just two weeks under her belt at the Chamber, Spires has been busy getting to know area business leaders and letting them get to know her. This kind of two-way personal working relationship is important, she said.
âMy immediate plans are just to focus on member relationship right now,â Spires said. âI feel like we canât make any successful events or get any types of ideas off the ground without our member support.

Dozens of children across the Copperas Cove, Killeen, Fort Hood and Harker Heights area got down to business selling lemonade and lemon-themed treats as part of Lemonade Day weekend.
There were several stands set up throughout Copperas Cove Saturday and Sunday.
Davira Rios, a first grader at Clements/Parsons Elementary, held her lemonade stand, called Davira’s Lemonade, at her house on Sunday afternoon. This was her third year participating in Lemonade Day, and she was excited to be able to make money selling lemonade. Davira sold lemonade and cherry limeade along with cupcakes and cake pop bites for donations.
Lemonade Day Weekend is a rain or shine event.
This weekend marks 12 years of Lemonade Day in the Fort Hood area. Lemonade Day participants have spent the last few months learning how to start, own and operate their own business â a lemonade stand. Some youth will be set up in front of their homes, while others have asked permission of a local business to use their store front. On Lemonade Day, the cities of Harker Heights, Killeen and Copperas Cove allow Lemonade Day participants to set up in city parks as well. With their profits, participants are encouraged to spend a little, save a little, and give a little of their profits, according to a news release from Lemonade Day.
