IH administers more than one million vaccine doses
Interior Health (IH) has surpassed administering its millionth dose of COVID-19 vaccine throughout the Interior as the #journey2immunity campaign continues.
“We are proud to report that IH has surpassed this incredible milestone, as we mark the Vax for B.C. campaign kick-off,” said Interior Health president and CEO Susan Brown. “We have made remarkable progress and we plan to keep going as we work to fight this challenging pandemic together.”
In total, 1,021,323 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered throughout Interior Health to date. This includes over 563,334 first doses and 457,989 second doses.

The Interior Health region has yet again shown the greatest increase in COVID-19 case numbers overnight with 95 of 150 cases from across the province being diagnosed here.
In the latest update from the B.C. Ministry of Health, the total number of COVID-19 cases rose to 149,259, with 783 being active. Of the active cases, 412 are within Interior Health.
This area's current resurgence of COVID-19 cases isn't going unnoticed, with a 26% unvaccinated rate and a higher caseload being spotlighted during a provincial press conference earlier in the day.
"In the Interior Health Authority, I think it's important, especially when we look at case numbers, to understand that those will change over time," Health Minister Adrian Dix said.

Province names First Nations Liaisons for Residential School response

“Today, we stand with former students, survivors, intergenerational survivors and their families,” Belleau said.
“We are ready to support communities as they do the difficult work of honouring the spirits of the children who never came home. I am pleased to take on this role and support leaders, former students of residential schools and their families in their journey to bring truth, justice and healing.”
Belleau is the former Chief of Esk’etemc First Nation about 50 kilometres south of Williams Lake, and former chair of the First Nations Health Council.
Hwitsum previously served four terms as the elected Chief of the Cowichan Tribes. Hwitsum also served as chair of the First Nations Health Authority and is a First Nations Summit Political Executive member.

B.C. reveals plan for $12M residential schools fund, announces new First Nations liaisons

VICTORIA --
The B.C. government has outlined how it plans to use $12 million to support First Nations and residential school survivors, as the country reels from the discovery of hundreds of children's graves at former residential school sites.
The province says First Nations communities that are located beside residential school sites can apply for up to $475,000 for work related to residential schools and survivors.
That funding can be used for searching former school sites, archival research, engagement work with elders and survivors, and engagement with other communities.
The funding can also be used to bolster mental health supports and services for survivors and their families.

Manitoba creates action plan as post-pandemic mental health presents major issue

service governance and accountability.
"The five-year action plan will help shape the strategic priorities of my department and set the direction for years to come," said Gordon.
"The government role will be to provide overall direction to improve access to and the co-ordination of the system, and support the work of the service delivery organizations and community-based agencies that provide direct patient care."
The province is looking to hire a consultant to lead consultation sessions with internal and external stakeholders, including service delivery organizations, community agencies and other departments. The minister said this will be done by the end of summer.
