Gritters to take to roads in Conwy with names chosen by residents

CONWY County Borough Council’s gritters will be taking to the roads with new names chosen by residents.
Members of the public suggested more than 450 names in January via the council’s website and social media and more than 1,400 residents voted on the final shortlist.
The most popular name was Auntie Freeze, with Gritasaurus in second place and Sir Gritalot getting the third place slot. Professor Chris Whitty Gritty recognises the UK’s Chief Medical Adviser and is the longest winning name. Along with Eazy Peazy Anti Freezy, he’ll be gracing the side of one of the biggest vehicles in the council’s fleet. ....

The judging panel is made up of winter works staff and cllr Greg Robbins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation.
Mr Robbins said: We got some really creative, funny suggestions from residents, including some with local connections. The judging panel had a tough job choosing the final shortlist and we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to suggest a name. Now we’re asking residents to help us again to choose the final 13 names for our gritters.
The gritters and our drivers have been working around the clock in the recent snow to keep our priority routes clear, so this feels like an appropriate time to name the vehicles officially.” ....
