Campground public hearing extended TREMONT After three and a half hours of comments from neighbors, attorneys and the project engineer regarding a 154-site campground proposed at 661 Tremont Road, members of the Planning Board decided to extend the project’s public hearing until May 25. More than 100 people attended the public hearing via Zoom, including members of the Planning Board, campground owners Kenya and James Hopkins, attorneys for the owners and for neighbors in opposition, as well as members of the public. To prepare for the crowd, the board, with help from town officials, established some rules of order prior to the meeting to allow as many people the opportunity to speak about the Acadia Wilderness Lodge campground as possible during the hearing. ....
Ellsworth Police Log Week of April 22 Police assist incapacitated citizens ELLSWORTH A traffic stop on April 14 ended with one teenager summoned and her passenger taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. Office McKay McLean was conducting the traffic stop when he was told that a passenger was in the midst of a drug overdose. McLean escorted the car to the hospital, where the person was treated. He also summoned 18-year-old Beaudie Jipson of Seal Cove on charges of illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor and operating a vehicle without a license. Police also were called to the China Hill parking lot on April 14 for a report of a heavily intoxicated man sitting in his car. He was taken home by taxi. ....
