Making a splash: Belle Isle Aquarium and Conservatory reopening Erica Hobbs View Comments After more than a year of closures due to COVID-19, Detroit’s Belle Isle Aquarium and the island’s Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory are reopening to the public, showcasing renovations, as well as new plants and exhibits. “It was very clear that we needed to utilize this time and leverage it to enhance the experience, so when it was time to reopen, we could do so with a splash,” said Michelle Hodges, president and CEO of Belle Isle Conservancy. Those enhancements include $1.2 million in improvements to the aquarium, including upgrading exhibits, stabilizing critical life support systems and modernizing infrastructure. While most of the changes are behind-the-scenes – like electrical system upgrades and a new water testing system – visitors will notice marked improvements when they enter the building. ....

Realising they were an anomaly in their industry – kick arse comics, but middle aged women – they realised that it didn’t matter how good they were, they were always going to be behind the 8 ball in an industry that favours under 30’s and is dominated by blokes. After years of performing for women’s luncheons and fundraisers to audiences that fangirled them like crazy, they both decided that there was an audience out there for them – they just had to go out and find them. Source: Liz Sier Continuing on our cruise from Curaçao, we headed next to St George’s Grenada and saw our well-anticipated first Caribbean rainforest. Then on to Bridgetown, Barbados, followed by Castries, St Lucia, where we had some exciting adventures. Grenada Rather than book a tour with the cruise line, a group of us who had met on the Cruise Critic website decided to book an independent tour. We had done this before on other cruises because it gave us the flexibility to control the locations and timing of the tour, as well as pay a much lower price for the tour. Limiting the group size to eight people whom we had already gotten to know via Cruise Critic was another plus. We chose the West Coast half-day tour with AJ Meddy Tours. ....
