Plea In Supreme Court For Probe Into Alleged Killing Of Jail Inmates In UP

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction for a CBI or NIA probe, supervised by the top court, into the alleged killing of three under-trial prisoners in Uttar Pradesh s Chitrakoot district jail.
The plea filed by Supreme Court lawyer Anoop Prakash Awasthi has also sought to fix accountability and taking appropriate action against those found responsible.
Direction for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into all extrajudicial killings that took place since March 18, 2017, in Uttar Pradesh after Yogi Adityanath took over the charge of the state as chief minister was also sought by the petition. ....

Chitrakoot : , May 14 (IANS) Three undertrials were killed in a gang war inside the high-security Chitrakoot jail on Friday.
According to reports, an undertrial Anshul Dixit opened fire at another gangster Mukeem Kala who died on the spot. In the shootout, another criminal, Mirajuddin, also received gunshot injuries and died.
Mirajuddin is said to be a close confidant of mafia don and Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Mukhtar Ansari.
The police asked Dixit to surrender but he fired at the police who, then opened fire in which Dixit was killed. ....

LUCKNOW: The high-security barrack of the Chitrakoot District Jail in Uttar Pradesh resonated with sounds of gunfire on Friday morning, as two hardened criminals from UP were allegedly gunned down by a fellow jail inmate in an alleged gang war. The third man was later killed by police.
As per an official statement released later, two prisoners, Meraj alias Bhai Meraj and Mukim alias Kala, were shot dead by fellow jail inmate Anshu Dixit. Coming to know about the shootout which happened at around 10 am, a team of local cops and administration, including the Chitrakoot district magistrate and police superintendent rushed to the jail. ....
